Kos - Greece

We went to Kos in August 2019 and stayed for one week in an all-inclusive resort.

Some travellers or holiday-goers reading this may be disappointed to read that we did not do any trips in Kos. We barely explored. However, after a busy city break in madrid and an extremely busy two week holiday in thailand earlier in the year, a week of complete relaxation in the sun was exactly what we wanted/needed. Plus, our resort was genuinely AMAZING so it was easy to spend a lot of time there.

So where did we stay? where was this amazing resort?
We travelled with jet 2 to the 'Blue Lagoon Ocean' resort on the East coast of Kos, 3km away from Psalidi town centre. The resort is adults-only (16+) and according to jet 2 is a 4*plus resort.

What made the resort so good?

There were so many positive points about this resort! Firstly, as soon as we arrived it (and admittedly in the pictures beforehand) it was clear that the hotel was modern and clean. The entire resort from the reception, to the bars to the pool area has a clean, modern design. The bedrooms also offer neutral but modern, 'brand new' looking decor. We aren't sure of exact dates but as of 2019 it felt as if the resort was basically brand new.

The hotel had a large buffet restaraunt that was open for breakfast and dinner. There was a great variety of food on offer - for me, i was particularly pleased to see crepes and pizza everyday. The greek meatballs and lasagne were great too. On the evening, this restaurant was closed, but an equally nice building was opened and served buffet food. The evening restaurant also offered theme nights throughout the week (greek night, chinese night, mexican night for example). Again the food was great!

In addition to the buffet restaurant, there was another a la carte restaurant on site and each party (guest) was able to book one meal per stay at this restaurant. When we went, we sat outside on a candlelit patio and had delicious greek-themed food.

The pool area was a sun trap! A perfect location for hours of relaxation in the sun. There were two seperate pools on two different levels, both of which were served drinks throughout the day by a pool bar which had additional, stylish seating areas.

The pool bar was an extension of the main bar. Of an evening, the stylish bar would open and offer daily entertainment- from singers to musicians to circus performers.

The hotel was not quite on the beach but it was only a short walk, literally across the road, to the beach.  Unfortunately (for us at least) the beach was a shingle beach and so we did not spend any time there. It was not quite the white sand beach we expected to see in Kos.

The location of the hotel meant that we were overlooked by mountains on one side. This provided a great backdrop and amazing views! (especially at sunset).

We did not do this but at the hotel it is possible to have a room with a private swim-up pool or a shared swim-up pool.

As we said earlier on, this holiday was all about relaxation and 'chilling by the pool' so we can not tell you too much about the island or excursions.

However, this hotel is situated next to a bus stop (The last stop) where you can get a bus directly in to Kos town. The journey took us along the coast and in to Kos town - it was a fairly scenic route with views of mountains, the sea, sections of beach and views of Turkey in the distance.

so what was Kos town like?

It was a nice (albeit fairly small) city with beaches, a port area and a few interesting landmarks including a castle, roman ruins and... a tree- hippocrates tree.
